Brad Lightcap, OpenAI’s chief operating officer, addressed the emotions felt by the company’s employees following Sam Altman’s dismissal, acknowledging confusion, sadness, and fear. He assured them that the company is focused on resolution, clarity, and getting back to work.
During a board meeting in San Francisco, Dario Amodei, 37, delivered a message similar to the subsequent blog post, stating that Altman “was not consistently candid in his communications with the board, hindering its ability to exercise its responsibilities.” This raised questions about the company’s structure and its views on the dangers of A.I., which have been a focal point since its establishment in 2015.
Notably, Jakub Pachocki, who played a significant role in developing GPT-4, was promoted to director of research at the company, alongside Dario Amodei. Following these developments, Pachocki resigned from the company, along with others, including Greg Brockman, the former chairman of the board.
